About John A. Humphrey

John A. Humphrey, Ph.D., is a professor in the Criminal Justice Department at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. He is also the co-director of the Consortium on Justice and Society in the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College. He holds a degree from Saint Anselm College, and a doctorate in sociology from the University of New Hampshire where he completed a post-doctorate in family violence (with Murray A. Straus) in the Family Research Laboratory. John Humphrey's research focuses on interpersonal violence, including physical and sexual assault, the link between homicide and suicide, wrongful conviction, and alternatives to incarceration. His work, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Justice, and the U.S. Department of Justice, has been published by journals in the fields of anthropology, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, and medicine. His books include: A Panorama of Suicide, The Administration of Justice, Deviant Behavior: Its Patterns, Sources, and Control, and Wrongly Convicted: When Justice Fails.
