The Streetwise Subbie Summary

The Streetwise Subbie by John Russell

The author details in "The Streetwise Subbie" a lifetime's experience of the construction industry, for the last 25 years in the services sector. He is a great believer in claims avoidance by the implementation and maintenance of basic routines on site, and believes that many of the disasters, which befall sub-contractors, could be avoided by a more systematic and 'streetwise' approach. This book is a guide to survival in the contracts jungle. Also included are the "The Streetwise Subbie's" site checklist and Jack Russell's monthly check-up. The checklist is a list of basic reminders for display on the site cabin wall grouped under the main headings of Programme, Progress, Information, Claims and Records. The intention is to ensure the subbie maintains basic procedures on site - for ensuring contractual protection. Jack Russell's monthly check-up is a much more comprehensive document. John Russell is an established contractual consultant, specialising in the assistance and protection of electrical and mechanical sub-contractors. He writes for "Electrical Times" under the pseudonym Jack Russell, the Contractual Terrier. He is on the Claims Consultants List in the "ECA Manual" and is on the register of Adjudicators maintained by the BEC. This work offers an easy to follow guide to the avoidance of problems and pitfalls in the world of the sub-contractor; with keynotes that summarise the main points in each section, and checklists included to act as reminders for the different stages of the sub-contract.
