Late one night the chauffeur of a high-ranking Soviet official is found strangled - too late to prevent him from smuggling out a tape hinting at the power struggle within the Kremlin. Hours later the tape is given to Charles Stone, a CIA analyst, who is drawn into the resulting violence.
