Totally Lucy: Best Friends Forever is about three friends organizing the school 'prom', and the problems they come up against, not least of which is finding the right boy to go with. There is a small subplot of Lucy realizing at last that Simon and she are more than just 'best friends with no fancying whatsoever'. The book is written as a journal with quirky black and white illustrations throughout, including mock photos and hearts round the page numbers. Good use is made of different fonts for emphasis and Lucy's Sooooo Cool language gives the stories force and vibrancy. The cover with the silver stars has plenty of 'girl appeal' even if they haven't read any of the previous stories. There will be a ready made audience of girls also who want to find out about the next adventure Lucy and her friends have. This is a series that works very well and will be much enjoyed by many of girls this age. * Write Away website *
