Precipitated by the introduction of the Literacy Hour, this text includes: a detailed and practical approach to reading with children; practical advice to teachers in running and evaluating a CAPER (Children and Parents Enjoying Reading); advice on supporting parents in their daily reading at home; and an introduction for parents to the framework of the National Literacy Strategy, giving them the chance to think about the nature of their involvement at word, sentence and text levels.
