The author, Fanny, is a well-heeled dog who lives at 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London. In this house full of mysterious treasures, Fanny and her friend Mew, the cat from next door, have many escapades, related here by Fanny in exciting and often hilarious detail. Fanny's owner, Mrs Soane and her husband, the famous architect Sir John Soane, lived at 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2 from 1813 until 1837. Their home is now a Museum and Fanny's grave in the Monk's Yard is much admired by visitors. Beautifully illustrated throughout by Francesca Martin using original 19th century drawings and paintings of the interiors of 13 Lincolns Inn Fields.

About Mirabel Cecil

Mirabel Cecil is author of A Kind of Prospero (Walker, 1996), the biography of her brother Sebastian Walker, the pioneering children's publisher. Mirabel Cecil's children's books include Ruby the Christmas Donkey and The Surprise Bear. Mirabel Cecil lives in London and Norfolk. Francesca Martin is well known for her colourful children's books based on her childhood in East Africa, notably The Honey Hunters and Clever Tortoise.
