The Meat Free Monday Cookbook Summary

The Meat Free Monday Cookbook by Paul McCartney

The Meat Free Monday Campaign aims to encourage everyone to do their bit to help protect the planet by demonstrating that by giving up meat for one day each week you can save money, reduce your environmental impact, and live a healthier life. Launched by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney in 2009, the campaign has been a trailblazer, and magazines, restaurants, hospitals, colleges, workplaces, celebrities, and entire communities have all pledged their support. Furthermore, almost every health study published in recent years has proven that eating a more plant-based diet improves body weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, and shows that having at least one meat-free day a week is essential for anyone wishing to enjoy a healthy life. The Meat Free Monday Cookbook also proves how simple it is to eat less meat by including irresistible vegetarian menus for every week of the year two main dishes, plus four other ideas for each meal of the day. Packed with recipes such as Fruity Quinoa, Mexican Cornbread, Warm Halloumi, Apple and Radish Salad, Double Chocolate Crackle Cookies, and Gingerbread Cake, as well as vibrant spring soups, inventive summer salads, appetizing autumn baked dishes and comforting winter stews. It includes contributions from Paul, Mary and Stella, as well as from celebrity and chef supporters such as Yotam Ottolenghi, Woody Harrelson, Pink, Darina Allen, and Vivienne Westwood. It really is the perfect recipe book for anyone who cares about their health, the environment, and seriously delicious food. The UK Meat Free Monday campaign is part of the global Meatless Monday movement launched in the US in 2003 by former ad man turned health advocate Sid Lerner and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The movement has now spread from the US and the UK to more than 40 countries that have homegrown versions of the cut out meat once a week campaign. About Paul McCartney

Paul, Mary, and Stella McCartney launched Meat Free Monday, after reading a report that linked the meat industry with climate change and called it one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. The family wanted to encourage people to have one day a week without meat as a way of doing their bit for the planet, thereby making a meaningful contribution to a more sustainable future. With more and more scientific studies being published linking meat-eating with human diseases, ranging from cancer to diabetes, the campaign has opened up to promote the health benefits of eating less meat and more fruit and vegetables, as well as the financial benefits of reducing one's meat consumption because plant-based proteins are typically cheaper than animal products. Join Meat Free Monday and you'll see how One day a week can make a world of difference: to the planet, to your health, and to your wallet, too!
