In this study, Roger Billcliffe not only treats the individual artists of the Glasgow Shool of Painting comprehensively, but also demonstrates that, as a group, the Glasgow Boys were not an isolated, local phenomenon but part of what can now be seen as a much wider tradition. Since this book's first publication in 1988, their reputation has been restored, firmly locating them at the forefront of art's first international movement.
