The first edition of this text proved a popular and respected handbook for students at all levels. It concentrates on providing practical and realistic guidance and focussing on those skills which nursing students really need. It reflects the fact that many nursing students are unfamiliar with academic study, and the demands that studying for a nursing qualification is going to make in their lives. The book is divide into three sections: Part 1 concentrates on fundamental study skills and how to get the most out of the teaching and reference resources that are available. It encourages students to establish what their own learning needs and styles are. Part 2 focuses on that area which students find most difficult i.e. writing and researching and preparing assignments. Part 3 aims to help the students make the vital links between their studies and their practice experiences. The text uses a number of features to help reader get the most from it, including activities, reflection points, case studies and annotated further reading. There are also a number of useful appendices including a simple guide to reference and citation systems .
