John A. Burrow is Winterstoke Professor of English at the University of Bristol. He has written extensively on medieval literature and recent works include
Medieval Writers and their Work (1982),
Essays on Medieval Literature (1984) and
The Ages of Man (1986).
Thorlac Turville-Petre is Reader in Early English Studies at the University of Nottingham. He is currently working on a book on nationalism and language in early fourteenth-century English writings.
