Jeffrey Masson has a Ph.D. in Sanskrit from Harvard University and graduated from the Toronto Pyschoanalaytic Institute. He was briefly Projects Director of the Sigmund Freud Archives. The documents he found there on Freud's approach to child abuse created a major controversy in psychoanalysis and led to his major books, Freud: The Assault on Truth, Against Therapy and Final Analysis. the book he wrote with Susan McCarthy on animal emotions, When Elephants Weep (1994), became a bestseller in the United States and was highly praised by reviewers in Britain.
