Melissa Harrison is a writer and nature lover whose first novel, Clay (2013) won the Portsmouth First Fiction prize; her second, At Hawthorn Time (2015), was shortlisted for the Costa Best Novel Award and longlisted for the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction. Both are as much about the natural world as they are about people. She writes the Nature Notebook in The Times and her most recent book is Rain: Four Walks in English Weather.; Founded in 1912 by Charles Rothschild as the Society for the Promotion of Nature Reserves, today The Wildlife Trusts are the UK's largest voluntary environmental organisation striving to restore wildlife on land and at sea. There are 47 individual Wildlife Trusts, all working for an environment rich in wildlife for everyone.
