Michel Tournier is a highly respected journalist, broadcaster and author of countless books for adults and children. His first novel, Friday, was published to international critical acclaim and won the Grand Prix du Roman of the Academie Francaise. After the success of this adult version of the classic Robinson Crusoe tale, M. Tournier decided to share his research and enthusiasm for the story with younger readers, and Friday and Robinson was an immediate success when it was first published in 1971. Now a cult classic, it still sells over 100,000 copies a year in France alone. The author's second adult novel, Le Roi des Aulnes, was the first book ever to be the unanimous winner of the Prix Goncourt, France's most prestigious literary award. Michel Tournier lives in France.
