Robert Young is an Australian social theorist who has developed a critical-pragmatic approach to social questions. He has written on the knowledge explosion, educational theory and policy, professional ethics, and cultural questions, often from a perspective that has emphasised the role of communicative processes. He is the author or editor of Control and Knowledge (Australian National University, 1979), A Critical Theory of Education (Harvester/Wheatsheaf, U.K., 1989 and Teachers' College Press, USA, 1990), and Critical Theory and Classroom Talk (Multilingual Matters, 1992), amongst other works. He is a member of the editorial board of Forum of Education, Language and Education, and other journals.
