(Vol. 2 covers electricity and magnetism, while Vol. 3 covers waves, fluids, heat, sound, and light. Vol.'s 2-3 will be released in the spring of 2017.)

AUTHOR: The author, Dr. Chris McMullen, has over 20 years of experience teaching university physics in California, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana (and has also taught physics to gifted high school students). Dr. McMullen currently teaches physics at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He has also published a half-dozen papers on the collider phenomenology of superstring-inspired large extra dimensions. Chris McMullen earned his Ph.D. in particle physics from Oklahoma State University (and his M.S. in physics from California State University, Northridge).

Dr. McMullen is well-known for:
  • engaging physics students in challenging ideas through creativity
  • breaking difficult problems down into manageable steps
  • providing clear and convincing explanations to subtle issues
  • his mastery of physics and strong background in mathematics
  • helping students become more fluent in practical math skills
MATH REVIEW: Separate chapters cover essential algebra, geometry, and trigonometry skills.

USES: This physics book serves two functions:
  • It provides a variety of examples for how to solve fundamental physics problems.
  • It's also the solutions manual to Essential Trig-based Physics Study Guide Workbook, ISBN 978-1-941691-14-4.

Chris McMullen is a physics professor at Louisiana's Northwestern State University. He graduated with a Ph.D. In 2002, he received his Ph.D. in phenomenological high-energy physics (particle physics) from Oklahoma State University. He got his Master's degree in the study of electron spin resonance at California State University, Northridge, where he was born and raised. His area of expertise is the Large Hadron Collider, and he has written multiple papers on the chances for discovering huge superstring-inspired additional dimensions at the LHC.

To convey his enthusiasm for the geometry and physics of the fourth dimension, Dr. McMullen created The Graphic Guide to Extra Dimensions, Volumes 1 and 2. Full-Color Illustrations of the Fourth Dimension, Volumes 1 and 2, are two volumes he authored to help demonstrate the geometry of a fourth dimension of space. When Dr. McMullen first read Rudy Rucker's introduction to the subject in high school, he was enthralled by the concept of a fourth dimension of space. He was working on his Ph.D. at the time.

When Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, and Dvali published a notable technical study motivating huge superstring-inspired additional dimensions in particle physics, the concept of the fourth dimension was changed from philosophy to a scientifically plausible science. Dr. McMullen has written these books for a public readership to share his enthusiasm for the math and physics of extra dimensions. May your consideration of a fourth dimension of space boost the dimensionality of your thoughts, is one of his favorite sayings.
