Robert O. Johnson enlisted in the Sir Force in 1942 where he was trained and became a member of the 454th Bomb Group. On July 7, 1944, while flying on his 35th combat mission, his plane was shot down over Poland and was captured and held as a prisoner of war at the German prison camp, Stallag Luft III, in Sagan, Poland. After 10 months of imprisonment, he became part of the Death March until he was liberated by General Patton. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Medal with 3 clusters and a European theater Ribbon with 3 battle stars.

Upon returning home, he attended the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he majored in Chemistry and Physics. Mr. Johnson entered the area of gas and air compressors in the high vacuum field where he became a highly regarded executive. He retired in 1986 as the President of the Norwalk Company in Norwalk, Connecticut.

Mr. Johnson died at the age of 85 on January 21, 2008 in New Bern, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Eddella and his three children; Patricia Loffredo, Suzanne Kelley and Rob Johnson; five Grandchildren and four Great-Grandchildren.
