Elaine inherited her love of reading fiction from her Irish mother and a passion for writing was the happy result. Writing makes Elaine smile and so does walking along Cornish cliffs, watching waves crash onto the beach and playing Scrabble with her family. She was born in Belfast, N. Ireland, came to London to attend the Italia Conti Performing Arts Academy, and made records with her twin brother which ‘scraped’ their way into the charts in their teens. Her twin is an actor who played Charlie Fairhead in the series Casualty for many years. Elaine has been lucky enough to have a varied working life which has taken her to several interesting countries (whilst getting paid!). After an initial career as a jazz singer and flautist in big bands (where she met her lifelong partner), she was a print and television journalist in Bahrain, editing and presenting the News in English at Bahrain Television. She has published several contemporary women’s fiction novels. But her favourite genre to write in is historical women’s fiction where she particularly enjoys the era of the 40s and 50s. She has written several books set in wartime Cornwall.
