ALL ABOUT PATTERN by Jill Newton

ALL ABOUT PATTERN by Jill Newton

Exploring pattern, this book which is one of a series is designed to encourage young children to examine closely the world around them. Through a simple and easy-to-read text it invites children to answer questions and to investigate and observe for themselves. The text and illustrations show how patterns are all around us. It is a way of arranging shapes or colours. When a shape or a pattern is repeated it becomes a pattern. Patterns can be formed by lines or curves. Animal patterning helps them to hide from predators or to find a mate. In nature patterns abound. Buildings, cars, tyres and the built environment provide many examples of patterning. Displays in shops are often based on patterns. Capitals and small letters too can be fitted together in many different ways to form patterns.
