Alden Carter has published novels for young people and adults, nonfiction works on a variety of topics, and picture books for and about special needs children over the course of his thirty-year career. His works have been named to the American Library Association's Best Books of the Year list six times, among other honors. Bright Starry Flag, his adult Civil War novel, won the coveted John Esten Cooke Literary Prize. He has done over 600 speeches in schools and at conferences for writers and educators, making him a popular speaker. He and his wife, Carol, live in Marshfield, Wisconsin, where he was a former teacher and navy officer. Brian, an architect, and Siri, a college student, are their two adult children.
