Imperial College London awarded Larrie D.Ferreiro a doctorate in the History of Science and Technology. He teaches history and engineering at Virginia's George Mason University and New Jersey's Stevens Institute of Technology. He spent 35 years in the US Navy, US Coast Guard, and Department of Defense, as well as serving as an exchange engineer in the French Navy. Measure of the Earth: The Enlightenment Expedition That Changed the World and Ships and Science: The Origins of Naval Architecture in the Scientific Revolution, 1600-1800 are two of his books. In Virginia, he lives with his wife and their two sons.
