Americas Secret MiG Squadron by Col Gaillard R Peck Jr

For more than a decade at the height of the Cold War, the US Air Force operated a covert, top secret training program called Constant Peg. This book reveals what it was like to learn to pilot secretly obtained Soviet aircraft, enabling American pilots to train against the hardware they would have to face if the ColdWar ever went hot.
Highly readable and highly recommended- Model Aircraft. I can't recommend this book enough. If you are into your 'covert aircraft' stories, where the facts are even stranger than the fiction, then you'll enjoy this book. - Airfix Model World. Highly readable and highly recommended. - Scale Aviation Modeller International. Fascinating stuff. - Air Classics This book is highly recommended for modelers interested in modern soviet aircraft, and the history of USAF aggressor aircraft and tactics. - IPMS/USA "As one of the project's masterminds and its first commander, Peck delivers an account replete with first-person detail..." Air & Space/Smithsonian "... the fascinating history of the men who trained to fly and maintain covertly obtained MiGs, for the first time providing an insider's perspective, personal anecdotes, and photographs, revealing how Colonel Peck battled bureaucracy and skepticism to ultimately establish the premier fighter pilot training center -- the real Top Gun." --Savannah Jones, www.sirereadalot.org "chapters pack in a history of the pilots, the missions, and the military concepts behind them, making this a fine survey of the little-known Red Eagles project recommended for any military holding." - The Midwest Book Review
Col. (Ret.) Gaillard R. Peck, Jr was a career officer in the US Air Force, after graduating from the Air Force Academy in 1962. He served at the Fighter Weapons School as an instructor in the F-4E for more than 2 years, and since May 1998 Peck has served as an F-15C academic instructor at the USAF Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base. However, he is best known as the creator of the CONSTANT PEG programme that trained US airmen against a collection of MiG fighter jets.
