The Amur River by Colin Thubron

Ralph Mouth is my name, Playing jokes is my game. A little laugh here And a little laugh there, Makes life fun for this ole hare This little tune was the most dreaded song in the forest. Ralph was a hare. All the animals of the forest called him Ralph Mouth. No one liked him because he had a big mouth that was always making fun of others. Ralph Mouth loved playing jokes on other animals and had become known as the bully of the forest. He did not care whose feelings he hurt, as long as he got a really good laugh out of the deal, he was happy. So happy, in fact, that he sang this obnoxious tune after every joke he pulled. Fox and skunk, then Murtle the turtle, and finally the beaver family all fell prey to the hurtful and cruel jokes of Ralph Mouth. All of them harmed in some way just so Ralph Mouth could satisfy his hunger for laughter at the expense of others. But then one fateful night the unexpected happened. The tables were turned. Ralph Mouth was in great need of a friend. But what could he do? None of the animals of the forest liked him. At some time or other, he had hurt all of them. Would there be anyone that would be his friend? Anyone that would meet his need? Would any one help? Would anyone care?
