From the Web site that attracts more than 3 million unique visitors a month, this groundbreaking book features 40 homes decorated by real people. Over 400 photos show details of all sorts of abodesfrom a tiny rental in Brooklyn to a condo in San Diego to a ranch-style in Miami. Each home profile includes floor plans, detailed resource lists, and how I did it explanations from the renters and owners who created fresh and entirely original interiors. Edited and written by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, Apartment Therapy founder and frequent makeover expert on HGTV, this bible of accessible design ideas is the ultimate home decor book for the DIY-savvy.
ApartmentTherapy.com was launched by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan and Oliver Ryan in New York in the spring of 2004. Maxwell, a onetime schoolteacher with degrees in English literature and Education, had launched Apartment Therapy as an interior design business in 2001. By 2003, he had developed an email newsletter for clients and family and friends. In that year, Oliver moved back to New York from Silicon Valley where he had been for the previous five years at Knight Ridder Digital after his graduation from Harvard Business School in 1997. It was the early days of the commercial blogging. (Nick Denton, a friend of Oliver's from Silicon Valley, and some of his Gawker Media team worked out of Apartment Therapy's studio for much of 2004.) Seeing the opportunity the two began working on the site and launched officially with Maxwell as the sole writer/editor in April of 2004. Today Apartment Therapy consists of a network of seven sites with a team of three full time and 25 part time staff.
