Around the World in 80 Poems by James Berry
This illustrated anthology takes children on a cultural journey from Greenland to the United Kingdom visiting Chile, India, Egypt and many other countries on the way. A collection that includes 80 different poems from over 60 different countries, there are old and new poets here for children to discover. With poems to make you laugh and poems to make you think, this book aims to both teach and entertain.
An award winning and distinguished poet, James Berry was born in Jamaica and grew up in a tiny village on the coast. He moved to the UK in 1948 where he became a leading campaigner for black people. One of the first black writers to achieve wider recognition, he was awarded an OBE in 1990 and is a strong advocate for young black writers. He now divides his time between Great Britain and Jamaica.
