The Art of Display by Katherine Sorrell

This volume offers advice on adding a professional touch to the way treasured objects are displayed around the home. The approach relates to any category of object, whether single pieces or groups, from family photographs and decorative glass vases to large sculptural pieces or collections of shells. Many types of places to display are explored, whether horizontal or vertical planes, hidden spaces, mantelpieces, plinths, shelves or bookcases. It also looks at window sills, tables, bespoke cabinets, walls and floors. The final section offers a range of practical guidelines on the techniques behind display such as mounting pictures, putting up shelves, hanging textiles and conservation and cleaning.
Katherine Sorrell is Associate Editor (Features) of Homes & Gardens magazine. She has written for numerous newspapers and magazines, including The Times, The Sunday Times, the Daily Telegraph, the Independent, and Elle Decoration. Her books include The Ultimate Home Style Guide, Modern Comfort, Living Textures, and Complete Craft. She was chosen as a selector for the Chelsea Crafts Fair in 1999 and also acted as a selector for the Crafts Council's Buyer's Guide to Contemporary British Textiles for the Interior. She lives in North London and in her spare time enjoys collecting contemporary crafts, in particular ceramics.
