Written by KURT BUSIEK Art by BRENT ANDERSON and WILL BLYBERG New cover by ALEX ROSS The original ASTRO CITY miniseries is back in a new edition, simultaneously available in hardcover and trade paperback with new cover art by Alex Ross! Welcome to Astro City, a shining city on a hill where super heroes patrol the skies. Each chapter in this collection is a stand-alone story highlighting different aspects or characters in the Astro City world. The city’s leading super hero tries to be everywhere at once, and berates himself for every wasted second as he longs for just a moment of his own. A small-time hood learns a hero’s secret identity and tries to figure out how to profit from the knowledge. A beat reporter gets some advice from his editor on his first day on the job. A young woman tries to balance the demands of her family with her own hopes and desires. Despite the fantastic settings, the characters in these slice-of-life stories feel like real people, and that gives the stories real power. On sale AUGUST 24, 192 pg, FC
By the time Kurt Busiek graduated from Syracuse University in 1982, he had already sold his first professional comics script--a backup story that appeared in Green Lantern #162, from DC Comics. Following that, he wrote Power Man and Iron Fist for Marvel for about a year and worked on such series as World's Finest Comics, Wonder Woman, and Red Tornado. Since then, Kurt has divided his time between writing mainstream series, including Avengers, Iron Man, Untold Tales of Spider-Man, Conan, Superman, JLA, and Trinity; and creating his own projects, including Thunderbolts, The Power Company, Jonny Demon, The Wizard's Tale, Shockrockets, Arrowsmith, and the multiple-award-winning Astro City. He's worked with a variety of talented artists, including Brent Anderson, Mark Bagley, Carlos Pacheco, Stuart Immonen, and Cary Nord. Kurt has won more than two dozen industry awards for his work. Among them are multiple Eisner Awards and Harvey Awards for Best Series, Best Single Issue, and Best Writer. In 1996, Marvels was named a Best Book for Young Readers by the New York Public Library. Kurt lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and two daughters and cat. The author lives in Boston, Massachusetts. Cary Nord is a comic book artist known for his work with Dark Horse, Marvel, and DC. Nord was educated at the Alberta College of Art and Design. Some of his most prominent work is Conan, Manowar, Daredevil, Suicide Squad, and Wolverine. He is the winner of the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award in 2004.
