ANDREW REYNOLDS, Reader in Medieval Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL, had directed research excavation and fieldwork in the Avebury region since 1991, concentration on the post-Roman, Anglo-Saxon and medieval archaeology of the area.
