Bad Lands by Tony Wheeler

A personal account of the author's experiences in some of the most repressed and dangerous regimes in the world. Here, he selected these 'Bad Lands' based on a simple criteria - how each country treats its own citizens, if it is involved in terrorism and if it is a threat to other countries.

Tony and Maureen Wheeler founded travel publication Lonely Planet after a trip along Asia's hippie trail in 1972, and the New York Times called him the trailblazing patron saint of the world's backpackers and adventure travelers. Wheeler was instrumental in the development of Melbourne's Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing, and Ideas, as well as the Planet Wheeler Foundation's work on more than fifty projects in the developing world.
