Baggage by Janet Street-Porter
Opinionated, driven, ruthless, eccentric - how do you become Janet Street-Porter? This book is the story of her bizarre childhood, providing an amusing, and sometimes shocking, picture of the formative years of the media queen.
Witty and extrovert, ruthlessly ambitious and unforgiving, Street-Porter would, on the evidence of this book, make a horrible enemy but a great friend- Independent on Sunday
Janet Street-Porter moved from the Daily Mail to the London Evening Standard, and from broadcasting on LBC Radio in the 1970s to presenting, devising and producing shows for London Weekend Television including the Six O'Clock Show. From 1988 to 1994 she was BBC Head of Youth and Entertainment Features, winning a BAFTA for originality in 1988. She spent a brief period as managing director of cable channel Live TV and co-founded independent production company Screaming Productions in 1996. She was made editor of the Independent on Sunday in 1999 and is now an Editor at Large for the Independent.
