Barney & Rose by Gerard Rose

Many students of American history know of the heroics of Paul Revere, Ethan Allen, Nathaniel Green, and, of course, George Washington, but few know of these two men. Joshua Barney, 23 years old, and his friend and compatriot, David Rose, only 20, played vital roles in key battle, on land and sea, for their nation's independence from Britain. Rose's great grandson times six recounts how both of these brave men put their lives on the line and gave us the freedom we treasure today.
A native of Australia, Gerard Rose is a trial lawyer, sometime politician, and an advocate for a wide variety of noble and important civic causes. His higher education included stints at the University of Santa Clara, and the Rome campus of Loyola University. As an officer in the United States Navy during the 1960s, Gerard traveled throughout the western Pacific, including Vietnam. In the early 1970s he taught international law and national strategy to senior naval officers. Over the years he has served as a scout leader, PTA president, a director of his children's grammar school, a council member and vice mayor of his local City Council, a director of his city's Redevelopment Agency, president of his city's fire/ambulance authority, president of his city's Art Gallery Alliance, a director of his city's cultural arts center, and as Deputy City Attorney of the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea. He is married to a clinical psychologist, and he has five children and four grandchildren. He commutes regularly between California and Illinois, and while in the air he can usually be found reading trashy novels.
