Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley (also written Keckly; February 1818 – May 1907) was a freed slave who rose to prominence in Washington, DC as a seamstress, civic activist, and author. She was most known as the First Lady's personal modiste and confidante, Mary Todd Lincoln. Keckley had gone to Washington in 1860 after purchasing her and her son's freedom in St. Louis.
