Belfast Confetti by Ciaran Carson

Belfast Confetti, Ciaran Carson's third book of poetry, weaves together in a carefully sequenced volume prose pieces, long poems, lyrics, and haiku. His subjects include the permeable boundaries of Belfast neighborhoods, of memory, of public and private fear, and, indeed, of the forms of language and art. Carson finds unexpected uses--constructive and destructive--of the building rubble of Belfast history. Rich in lore of place, these innovative and vividly fresh poems draw deeply on traditions--oral, local, and literary.

Ciaran Carson was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1948. Belfast Confetti, First Language, and Breaking News are among his nine collections of poetry. Last Night's Fun, a book about Irish traditional music; The Star Factory, a Belfast memoir; Fishing for Amber: A Long Tale; and Shamrock Tea, a novel that was long-listed for the 2001 Booker Prize, are among his prose works. For All We Know (2008) was chosen by the Poetry Book Society. In 2008, his Collected Poems was published. On the Night Watch (2009) and Until Before After (2010) are his most recent poetry collections. He is the author of The Pen Friend (2009) and Exchange Place (2012), two novels.
