Born in Berlin on January 9, 1890, as the son of a merchant. He studied Jura and worked as a Bankvolontar for a short while. He was a long-serving employee and the Worldbuhne's long-serving Herausgeber. Tucholsky had been living in the United States since 1924 and only returned to Germany on a sporadic basis. He lived in Schweden since 1929.
The Nazis outlawed the Worldbuhne in 1933, ransacking Tucholsky's office and executing him. Tucholsky died on December 21, 1935, at Hindas, Goteborg, most likely by suicide.
