Blackout Girl by Jennifer Storm

When she was first assaulted at age twelve, Jennifer Storm turned to alcohol to dull the emotional pain. After a string of childhood traumas, she fell into drug use and self-harm. Once Jennifer finally found treatment after surviving the last of multiple suicide attempts, she discovered that it was possible to heal her shame. Blackout Girl is the heart-breaking, enlightening, and inspiring story of Jennifer's narrow escape from her own self-destructive instincts when all of the odds, and systems, were stacked against her.

Jennifer Storm is a Couchiching Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario's Couchiching First Nation. Jennifer was born and reared in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and wrote her first novel, Deadly Loyalties, when she was fourteen years old. Jennifer earned the Helen Betty Osborne Award and the Manitoba Aboriginal Youth Achievement Award in 2006. Jennifer is a student at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, where she is studying Aboriginal Studies.
