He served in the Balkans, the Eastern Front, then the Kuban before returning to his home village at the end of the war. Lawrence Paterson has written several books on the U-boat war, including _U-Boat War Patrol_, _Hitler's Grey Wolves_ and a new biography of Otto Kretschmer His latest book is _Hitler's Brandenburgers_. He lives in Taranto, Italy and is drummer in a heavy metal band.
