Blood Runs Crooked by Levi Bronze

"If you are a fan of John Grisham or John Irving, you will love Levi Bronze." -Bill Schweitzer, author of Doves in a Tempest

Life in Locust Fork, Mississippi, is bitter for Lane. Both his parents are deceased, and he shares the house with Gunner, his abusive stepfather. To avoid Gunner's verbal tirades and lashes from his leather strap, Lane labors at the chores Gunner assigns him and steers clear of the heartless man as much as possible.

Then, the day comes when providence smiles upon Lane. The Weston family relocates from Texas and moves into the house that connects to the back side of Lane and Gunner's farm. And much to his delight, he meets Abigail Weston, a seventeen-year-old stunner with brains that equal her beauty. Their new bond breathes new life into Lane.

Months later, however, an unexpected death throws Lane's life into turmoil when the autopsy suggests murder, and all the evidence points the finger at Lane. He's charged and a trial ensues. In the courtroom, the state's savvy, charismatic district attorney uses all his prowess to get a conviction and thus guarantee life in prison for Lane . . . or, better yet, the needle. But there's more to the case than the evidence shows.
