The Boeing Hornet is a twin-engined multi-role supersonic jet fighter of the third generation. Derived from the Northrop YF-17 lightweight fighter concept, its twin-engine reliability, option to carry greater payloads and rugged ability to operate from bare base conditions as well as aircraft carriers made it an ideal choice for both US Navy and US Marine Corps looking to replace their second-generation fighter and attack types. Although the design has been around for over forty years, upgrades have kept the aircraft at the forefront of military thinking. Peter Foster is an award-winning Toronto-based journalist and author. He was born and educated in England, where he studied economics at Cambridge and worked for the Financial Times of London before immigrating to Canada in 1976 to become a senior editor at the Financial Post, which was then a broadsheet weekly. He returned to the Financial Post as a columnist in 1998 when it became part of the newly created National Post, and still contributes twice weekly. His most recent journalism honour was the 2011 English-language Economic Education Prize from the Montreal Economic Institute. He has won numerous National Magazine Awards, and his Financial Post columns have twice been shortlisted for the international Bastiat Prize. He has written eight previous books: The Blue-Eyed Sheiks: The Canadian Oil Establishment, The Sorcerer's Apprentices: Canada's Superbureaucrats and the Energy Mess, Other People's Money: The Banks, the Government, and Dome, From Rigs to Riches: The Story of Bow Valley Industries, The Master Builders: How the Reichmanns Reached for an Empire, Family Spirits: The Bacardi Saga: Rum, Riches and Revolution, Self-Serve: How Petrocan Pumped Canadians Dry, and Towers of Debt: The Rise and Fall of the Reichmanns. The Blue-Eyed Sheiks was a number-one non-fiction bestseller. Self-Serve won Canada's National Business Book Award. Peter is also a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Calgary-based Petroleum History Society. Peter used to play rugby and squash and run marathons. Now he walks. He has one daughter, to whom his latest book, Why We Bite the Invisible Hand: The Psychology of anti-Capitalism - which has been twenty years in the making -- is dedicated.
