The Book of Plans for Small Gardens by Andrew Wilson

As good design is the key to a successful garden, this book has collected together some of the best of today' s structural garden plans, providing practical solutions for smaller gardens in both town and country. After an introduction that gives specific advise on the advantages and restrictions of designing a garden for a smaller space and how problems can be resolved, the book features some 150 structural garden plans divided into thematic chapters. The plans include those for problem sites, such as small, narrow, shaded or sloping gardens, as well as key garden features such as steps, decking, boundaries, water features, lighting, and ornaments, together with key planting.
Andrew Wilson is a lecturer in garden design, and a freelance garden and landscape designer, whose commissions include those for The Royal Horticultural Society. Between 1995-2003 he taught the professional diploma course in Garden Design Studies at the world-famous Inchbald School of Design in London. An experienced writer, Andrew has written for The Garden, Gardens Illustrated, House and Garden, Landscape Design, and the Sunday Telegraph. He is the author of The Creative Water Garden, and was a contributor to The Esssential Garden Book and The Modern Garden Makers. Both his book, Influential Gardeners, and The Book of Garden Plans, for which he was General Editor, are published by Mitchell Beazley.
