
Matthew Brennan was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Louis and received his education at St. Louis University. University High School is located in Saint Louis, Missouri. He graduated with a B.A. Grinnell College and the University of Minnesota awarded him bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.
He is the author of THE HOUSE WITH THE MANSARD ROOF (The Backwaters Publishing, 2009), as well as two previous poetry collections, Seeing in the Dark (Hawkhead Press, 1993) and The Music of Exile (Cloverdale Books, 1994), as well as the verse-narrative The Sea-Crossing of Saint Brendan (Birch Brook Press, 2008). Poetry Ireland Review, Notre Dame Review, South Dakota Review, Poet Lore, Sewanee Review, and Blue Unicorn are just a few of the periodicals that have published his work. He has also contributed essays and reviews to South Carolina Review, South Atlantic Quarterly, Sewanee Review, Georgia Review, The Wordsworth Circle, English Language Notes, and other magazines, including Wordsworth, Turner, and Romantic Landscape (Camden House, 1987) and The Gothic Psyche (Camden House, 1997). He was awarded the Thomas Merton Award for Spiritual Poetry in 1999.
He teaches at Indiana State University and resides in Terre Haute with his wife, Beverley Simms.
