Cake Style by Annie Dam
Welcome to the chic side of sugarcraft. Recently it seems like everyone is picking up a piping bag and moulding fondant to create edible art, but books on the subject often favour cakes for kids or feature old fashioned designs – while stylish bakers tap their Manolo Blahniks in frustration. Modern cake design is a combination of several elements: creativity, chemistry, architecture, and artistic vision, so forget the garish colours and tired-looking fondant flowers, it’s time for chic cakes.
This book teaches you the art of modern cake design - and you won't find any fuddy duddy grandma-style cakes here! Annie talks creativity, architecture, chemistry and artistic visionLearn the skills and techniques through the comprehensive step-by-step instructions to achieve a variety of chic cake designs - while drooling over the exquisite photography. Eat your heart out!-Handmade Living Canadian cake maker Annie reveals how to make a range of 20 contemporary cakes for a variety of events. The modern designs use a wide selection of techniques, but even the beginner will be able to follow the clear instructions and learn from the detailed step-by-step photography. Annie makes full use of tools including cutters and stencils and provides a useful breakdown on how long each step will take to help you plan in advance.-Cakes & Sugarcraft Learn how to decorate cakes in this attractive and useful book. Taking you from basic recipes to the glorious finished item, if you work through these, you will never lack for sugar crafting know-how. One thing I particularly like about this book is its originality and very contemporary look. There are flowers and bows, but not to excess; instead there is the quirky, the chic and the classy, which is sure to appeal to a wide range of different people. The author originates from Saigon, so there are no Christmas or Easter cakes in here, but you can find projects for weddings, baby showers, and birthdays, although most of the cakes will do for practically anything. Instructions take you from the flat icing through to the decorating with some small photographs to aid with the stages, although this is not a book for the total beginner. At the beginning there are a few pages dedicated to what you need to obtain, as well as how to level, split and fill cakes, work with sugarpaste, and other basics. There are recipes for three cakes (basic sponge, chocolate sponge and carrot cake) as well as for buttercream and royal icing, but mostly this is a book of projects. Luxuriate in some great ideas such as a cake covered with polka dots, a New York skyline, gift box, Mardi Gras mask, baroque and mosaics as well as my own favorite, the Japanese inspired bamboo cake topped with a teapot. Intermediate icers will find much to please them, while beginners would be advised to try something with more stages and illustrations first.-Myshelf.com A diverse mix of 20 cake styles and techniques by well travelled Annie, who owns a cake boutique in Canada. Information also included on cake decorating materials, tools, basic recipes, essential techniques including stacking and everything needed to achieve these cakes.-Cake Craft & Decoration
