The Carbohydrate Appropriate Diet by Cliff Harvey

Have you tried time and again to lose weight, improve performance and feel better, and failed?Low-fat, high-carbohydrate dietary guidelines have simply not worked. Diabetes and obesity are skyrocketing. We are sick and tired of being sick and tired and with all the conflicting diet advice we are more confused than ever. In The Carbohydrate Appropriate Diet, Cliff Harvey presents a simple and effective, evidence-based guide to eating for health and performance-without having to count calories. If you come from a more traditional scientific background, and you want to step into a different stream of evidence that might surprise you in some cases, this is the book for you. If you come from a naturalist or holistic background and are ready to find out what the evidence does and doesn't support, this is also the book for you. I definitely recommend giving it a read.-Eric Helms MSc, MPhil The coined phrase carb-appropriate is a perfect one, in that it aptly reflects the much-needed personalised approach with this style of eating. Even if you are well-versed in this area, you will still learn something, as I did. Cliff, congratulations in making this book not only informative but also enjoyable to read.-Caryn Zinn PhDRegistered Clinical Nutritionist, Naturopath, Author, Speaker and Researcher, Cliff Harvey is a thought-leader in the field of lower-carbohydrate practice. He has been applying and prescribing low-carbohydrate diets since the 1990s and researches metabolic adaptations to diet at AUT University.
Cliff Harvey is a serial entrepreneur in the health and wellness field. He is a clinician, researcher, lecturer and the founder or co-founder of many successful businesses in the health field, including NuZest, a multinational health supplement company, and HPN, a private tertiary college providing advanced nutrition science education at the graduate and postgraduate level. Cliff's journey in the health and wellness field began in 1998 as a strength coach and nutritional consultant. Over the following years he was able to work with many elite level athletes (including Olympic Medalists and World Champions) and also help many with chronic health conditions to drastically improve their health. He is now seen as a leading clinician in the area of metabolic adaptation and is involved in University research in the application of ketogenic and Low-Carb, High-Fat (LCHF) diets for health and performance. In 2001 Cliff was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and the subsequent battle to recover his own health led to further study in Naturopathic Medicine. Through this he was able to bring a more holistic and global focus to his clinical nutrition practice. After recovering from the most devastating effects of Crohn's disease Cliff competed at the world championship level in All-Round Weightlifting, winning gold medals at the 2004 and 2007 IAWA weightlifting world championships and setting two world records. He is the author of Choosing You!, Time Rich Cash Optional, and 99 Things You Need to Know to Lose Fat. Cliff has been invited to speak at The University of British Columbia, Auckland University of Technology, Wellpark College, Langara College (Vancouver), Net-Fit Annual Conference (NZ), Fitness NZ Annual Conference, Canadian Fitness Professionals Annual Conference, and various corporate wellness programmes, sporting organisations and industry conferences around the globe.
