CAROUSEL CARVING by Bruce White
Carve your own authentic replicas, from full-size ones to miniatures but exact to the details, from the world's famous carousel animal designers. By following a special technique for adapting historic designs into modern conventional carving methods, you can create your own menagerie. Take your pick from: "Cherni's Lion", a 1910 Italian classic; "Flag Horse", a 1880 creation by the Dare Company; and "Lilly Belle", carved by a German POW in 1917 at Fort Leavenworth federal prison, USA. There are also more modern projects to try.
Betty C. Monkman served more than thirty years in the Office of the Curator, the White House, retiring as Chief Curator in 2002. She is a frequent contributor to White House History. Formerly a staff photographer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bruce White specializes in photographing art and architecture.
