Cart and Cwidder by Diana Wynne Jones
The first in the Dalemark Quartet of books this is the story of Moril and his brother and sister - travelling musicians journeying through Dalemark. One day they pick up a mysterious passenger and somehow Moril's family and the stranger become bound together in terror, flight, and music.
At the age of eight Diana knew she was going to be a writer, it was as though someone tapped her on the shoulder and told her so. She started writing books and reading them to her sisters. Then she moved on to study at Oxford, where she met her future husband who encouraged her to attend the lectures of both C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Diana is an outstanding writer of fantasy and the Dalemark Quartet books are good for readers who have enjoyed the Christopher Chant books by the same author. Diana lives in Bristol, with her husband and three children.
