Casino Royale by Ian Fleming
The licence to kill for the Secret Service was a great honour. It brought James Bond the only assignments he enjoyed, the dangerous ones. At the Casino in Deauville, Bond's game is baccarat. But away from the discreet salons, the caviar and champagne, it's 007 versus one of Russia's most powerful and ruthless agents.
Ian Fleming was born in 1908 and educated at Eton. in 1931, he joined the Reuters news agency. During World War II he was Personal Assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence of the Admiralty. His wartime experiences provided him with a first-hand knowledge of secret operations. At the age of 42 he wrote Casino Royale, the first of the Bond novels. By the time of his death in 1964, Fleming's fourteen Bond books had sold more than 40 million copies.
