The Challenge of Sustainable Cities by Rod Burgess
This is an assessment of the current state of play between urban theory, policy and architectural and planning practice in developing countries. It explains and criticizes what is happening in cities in an era now dominated by neoliberal development policy.
Rod Burgess teaches urban planning at Oxford Brookes University, and is a Visiting Research Professor at Delft University of Technology, where Marisa Carmona is also based. Theo Kolstee works for the Netherlands Ministry of Development Cooperation. The contributors are eminent urban planners, architects and academics, mostly from Africa, Asia and Latin America. They include Professor John Turner of the Habitat International Coalition.
