He joined the oldest and largest British manufacturer, Shirley Aldred & Company Ltd, in 1959 was Managing Director from 1969 to 1983. He has been Chairman of the former National Associatin of Charcoal Manufacturers and is Chairman of the British Charcoal and Coppice Group.
