Chinese by Elizabeth Scurfield
An introduction to written and spoken modern Chinese (formerly called Mandarin) for the beginner. There are 22 structured units which introduce first the complexities of grammar and then the characters. For those not wishing to learn characters, a "pinyin" transliteration is provided.
Elizabeth Scurfield co-founded the Chinese Department at the University of Westminster and set up the first ever UK student exchange scheme with China in 1976. She has taught Chinese for nearly 40 years.
