The James Tait Black Memorial Prize in Biography and the Royal Philharmonic Society Book Award were among the honors bestowed to Alan Walker's authoritative three-volume biography of Liszt, Franz Liszt. His work has appeared in The Musical Quarterly, The Times Literary Supplement, and The Times Educational Supplement, among other publications. Walker, an emeritus professor at McMaster University, was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1986 and received the Knight's Cross of the Republic of Hungary's Order of Merit in 2012.
