She is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has been an international adjudicator for The Guinness Book of Records. Together with explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell, OBE, she once organised an expedition to carry a grand piano to the remote Wai Wai tribe in Guyana which was the subject of a BBC2 TV documentary.
