Classic Toys of the 1960s and 1970s by Arthur Ward
By the early 1960s such famous toy brands as Airfix, Dinky, Corgi, FROG, Matchbox, Tri-ang, Meccano, Hornby and Scalextric had secured a firm hold on the imagination of children and hobbyists throughout the world. Other names were also arriving on the scene, including, Barbie, Revell, Monogram, Solido, Lego and Hasbro's GI Joe as well as a couple of dolls called Sindy and Tressy. It was truly a golden age.
Arthur Ward is a lifelong collect of toys, models and militaria. Following a career in the visual arts and media, he now concentrates on freelance photography and writing. Arthur has appeared on Channel 4's Collector's Lot and BBC2's James May's Top Toys. He has written several books, including TV and Film Toys and Ephemera and British Army Cap Badges of the Twentieth Century [also in the Crowood Collectors' Series] and, with Richard Ingram, Buying and Selling Wartime Collectables.
